BCU Awards

Internationally recognised Canoe and Kayak awards from the British Canoe Union for personal performance and coaching.

The British Canoe Union (BCU) are the governing body of paddle sports in the UK. There’s an award for all abilities, once you’ve achieved the basics in either coaching or personal paddling the awards then become discipline specific eg. Inland Kayak or Sea Kayak.

The courses are quite intense and follow a structured outline that covers a broad range of skills and theory. Each award is a pre-requisite for entry to the next although it can be possible to miss stages out if you have the required experience.

1 Star Canoe and Kayak course

A one day introduction course to Canoeing and Kayaking, with a national certification for successful candidates. A perfect course for those starting out in paddle sports. Find out more.

2 Star Canoe and Kayak course

Master the fundamentals of Canoeing & Kayaking on a 2 Star training course. The basic skills learnt on this course allow you to move into any Canoe or Kayak discipline. Also a pre-requirement for level 1 Coach. Find out more.

3 Star Canoe or Kayak courses

3 Star awards involve high level of personal skills and leadership in your chosen discipline. Paddlers at this standard can consider themselves intermediate & advanced Kayakers. We offer 3 Star Open Canoe, inland and sea training and assessment. Find out more.

4 Star inland or Sea Kayak courses

A BCU Four Star award shows a high level of personal skill, knowledge and leadership in your chosen discipline. A great award for club paddlers to aim for. Coming soon, contact us to register your interest.

UKCC level 1 Canoe & Kayak coach
