Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about our sea kayaking experiences? Check out our FAQs to find the answers you need!
  • What can I work on during a private session?

Anything you like – it’s your session. We regularly cover technique tuning, confidence building, journey planning, leadership skills, rolling, and prep for PaddleUK awards. Just let us know what you'd like to focus on.

  • Do I need my own equipment?

Nope – we can provide everything you need, including boats, paddles, spraydecks, and buoyancy aids. If you’ve got your own kit and want to use it, that’s totally fine too.

  • Can you help me prepare for a PaddleUK award or assessment?

Absolutely. We regularly coach paddlers working towards Sea Kayak and Canoe personal performance awards, Safety & Rescue, and Leadership. We’ll tailor the session to the award requirements and your current skill level.

  • Can I share the session with a friend or paddling partner?

Yes – private coaching is available for individuals or small groups. The base price covers up to two people, and you can add more for an extra fee. It’s a great way to learn alongside someone at a similar level, or split the cost of a full day on the water.

  • Where do the sessions run from?

Introductory sessions for beginners are typically based along the South Coast, including the sheltered waters of the Beaulieu River. For intermediate and advanced coaching, we may use a range of locations depending on your goals – from estuaries to open coastline. We’ll confirm the venue with you when you book.

Came on the 3 hour sea kayaking introduction. Had a great time, achieved all that I expected and more, always love courses so much more when the instructor's are obviously passionate about what they do.

Had a lovely 3 hour kayak tuition session on the river at Beaulieu today. Ellen, our instructor, kitted us out and went through the basics before getting us on the water. We were a group of 4 adults with little or no experience of kayaks or canoes and Ellen very quickly had us paddling forwards, turning left and right and stopping etc. We were guided along the river, learning about the local wildlife and history of this beautiful setting. A really relaxing experience with an engaging instructor and pretty good weather to boot! Highly recommend!

Great session covered everything we needed to get going, enjoy lots of adventures since then. Instructor Leander was amazing, the session was well paced and so useful!
