Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about our sea kayaking experiences? Check out our FAQs to find the answers you need!
  • Is sea kayaking in winter cold?

We provide thick wetsuits and high-quality gear to keep you warm on the water. Because we limit the session to 4 hours in the middle of the day, you get the best of the winter light without the deep chill of a long afternoon. Plus, we bring the hot chocolate!

  • Do I need sea kayaking experience?

You'll need some prior kayaking experience. If you've joined us in the summer or have paddled kayaks on rivers, lakes, or the sea before, you'll be fine. The focus is on a relaxed journey, not hardcore conditions.

  • What happens if the trip doesn't reach minimum numbers?

We require a minimum of 3 paddlers to run this winter session. If we haven't reached that number 48 hours before the trip, we will contact you to reschedule, offer a full refund, or provide the option to pay a small top-up fee to run it as a private session for two.

  • What should I bring?

We provide all the technical paddling kit, but please bring:

    • Footwear you can get wet
    • A warm woolly hat (crucial for winter!) and warm layers for before/after the paddle
    • Lunch, snacks, and water
  • What if the weather is bad?

Winter weather can be volatile, and safety is our top priority. If the wind or sea state is unsuitable, we will reschedule your session or provide a full refund.

  • Where do we launch from?

We use a range of launch sites across the coast, selected strictly based on finding the best shelter from the winter weather. You'll receive full joining instructions, including the meeting point, 48 hours before your trip.

Two people kayaking in calm water, one giving thumbs up. Boats and shoreline in background.

Highlight was a very lucky seal sighting, and the trip was awesome too. Educational and fun - Steve coaches without it feeling like you're being trained. It was my first day sea kayaking and I built on techniques learnt around Beaulieu in the spectacular setting of Old Harry rocks. Looking forward to a summer of practise, less getting stuck on rocks, and longer expeditions!

Really enjoyed our sea kayaking trip. Amy was our coach and she did a great job of teaching and balancing that with enjoying the kayak. I'm glad we had a go at rolling over and getting out at the end of the session.

Absolutely amazing, if you are new to kayaking or need to brush up on your skills I would recommend these activities. Our instructor Leander made us feel safe & comfortable on the water, her teaching skills are second to none. If you are thinking of booking go ahead you will have a wonderful day.
